Guess who went canoeing? Last weekend most of the group went on a 13 mile canoe trip. By Sunday we were all sunburned and our arms were sore. No one actually flipped their canoe. Mostly, we just got stuck on the rocks. We did have to get out of the water twice to dodge thunderstorms. But, we all needed the break. I hope everyone had a great time. I know I did!

CAPTURE THE FLAG

So it has definately been a while since we updated this thing. What has the youth group been up to? Well, we took a very late night trip to see Third Day. We had a blast!!(and everyone even made it to church the next day!) Also, you guys did and AWESOME job on being the servers at the Sweethearts Banquet, even though our car got trashed. Don't worry, Mike didn't forget about the sweet revenge. :) A few weekends ago we played Capture the Flag at the farm. I think everybody pulled a bunch of muscles but we managed to have a great time!!! I couldn't get the boys to pose on the couch like the girls did so we'll just have to leave them out.

Next up...... Mike has a ropes course in the works. Better lose your fear of heights!!

LOCK IN AND JAARS TRIP

The youth group had a lock-in last week at the church. They had ice cream sundaes, popcorn and watched The End of the Spear, a movie about Nate Saint and the missionaries that were killed trying to witness to a group of natives. Then they played the playstation and baseball(inside) until the wee hours of the morning. However, with a little proding, everyone was ready to go at 5:30AM the next morning!! They arrived at JAARS and went through the museum and learned a little bit about how translating the Bible takes place in other languages. Then they ALL took a helicopter ride. Great job you guys. You were a pleasure to take off and I was so proud of you all.

We had a great time at the corn maze on Saturday. Between the Pedal Carts, Corn Canon, Corn Maze and Hayride there was no time to be bored! Ya'll did awesome in the maze(using your map skills :) We'll do it again soon! You guys are so much fun to take out.

The Infamous Campout

Here Michael finds his way through a tunnel under the road. It was one of the many obstacles we had to navigate on the way to the camp site.

Yes, we did signal to a real plane. Everyone got to practice their signaling skills.

This is the girls shelter that they slept in. They were pretty brave. Even when they heard the mysterious screaming in the night.

This is one of the guys shelters. Pretty good for no tools!

Andrew was the first to finish his shelter. Looks pretty cozy.

This is everyone signaling to the plane. We used smoke, orange panels, and signal mirrors.

Here, Tommy has mastered the art of the signal mirror. The pilot said that you all did a great job with the signals and the signal mirror was by far the most effective.

Nothing like a good Smore (or a frog in Mile's case) after a hard day of hiking. We did eat a few insects and a lizard, not the greatest meal we ever had but it would do in a pinch.

"Wicked Awesome". John and I were so proud of you. It won't be the last time we'll do something like this.

I am so proud of you all for learning the survival skills and doing your memory verses and for completing your books. Remember all you have learned and use it to serve the Lord. I look forward to the next study that we do. You guys are a joy to teach.

Now that the Survival Kits have been packed it's time for the Camping Trip! I hope you are all as excited as we are. Here are a few things to remember. When: Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 29th and 30th. Meet at the church at 9am! Check your list to make sure you have everything. Don't forget your lunch for Saturday. Come ready for a good time and a neat surprise!

I hope you all have enjoyed the last few weeks as much as I have. You guys did an awesome job diving in there getting your hands dirty with the fish! Great Job.

A few things I hope you remember from the lessons we did. Remember, the Bible is inspired by God and is just as relavent in today's life and is was in the past. It is the truth and can be fully trusted. Keep doing your last few lessons and learning those verses.

***Remember*** The Campout is coming up September 29th and 30th. I hope everyone will come. We are going to make it alot of fun.

It's Been a While

It has been a while since we've updated. Sorry about that. Since school has started for me things have been a little crazy. We promise to update sooner next time. Well, these are pictures of Weeek 2 of Map Reading. Ya'll did great. It was a lot of information and yes there was some Algebra involved but you all seem to get it down. If you are still confused, don't worry. We'll do some fun things with it at the campout. Tomorrow will be on First Aid. Please keep up on your devotions, as this is the most important part. By doing this everyday, it will help you establish a good pattern for the future. Devotions are a critical part of your spiritual growth.

***UPCOMING EVENT** - Remember that the campout it September 29th and 30th. We are going to have a great time. We'll even have smore's and there may be a cool surprise! Please come!

Well, we survived the hiking trip (and the lots and lots of steps). I hope everyone had a great time. I know I did!! I think everyone's favorite part was playing in the river and going down the mini-waterfall. You all are fearless and made this trip full of lots of memories. I will get everyone some pictures next Sunday. I can't wait for the next trip.

Don't forget to do your lesson this week. We are on Chapter 6. Also, keep memorizing those verses.

will hold you up if done right!

This is the poncho shelter and the quickest one to put up. Brian is testing it out.

You all did a great job Sunday. I hope you learned a lot. You'll each get a chance to make these and sleep in them on our camping trip. We missed those of you who weren't there and hope to see you next week. Remember, next week is the hiking trip. Please wear comfortable and cool clothes and sturdy shoes. Also, bring a bag lunch with drink. We will reschedule if it's raining.

As far as the Bible lesson, next week we are on Week 5 part 2. Please do your studies and memorize your verses. Try to remember what we learned today- set your hearts and your mind on things above.

ORIENTEERING

I'm sorry it has taken us so long to update the blog. Here are the three techniques of Orienteering that we learned on Sunday. The first was : Needle/Blade of Grass Compass. The second was: The Watch Shadow Compass. The Third and most reliable was: The Stick Shadow Compass. I know you had a lot of information thrown at you at once but I hope you were able to learn something. If you have any questions about anything just let me know.

As far as the Bible Lesson goes. I hope that you all have been praying for God to reveal to you a ministry and service that you can become involved in and serve in the body of Christ. Remember that : We are one body in Christ

We should serve our Lord

For this Sunday, the lesson is Week 4; Two Natures. Please try and memorize the memory verse. The survival skill will be on Shelter.

***HIKING TRIP***- Next Sunday, August 19th, we will be leaving after church to go on a hiking trip. Please bring a bag lunch and comfortable shoes and cool clothing. More details to come on Sunday.

Great Job on the Water Survival Class!! I had a lot of fun and I hope you all did as well. We missed those of you who couldn't come. Oh,and Michael W. and Angela G. - ya'll turned your head just as I took your pictures so they didn't come out. I'll get you next time.

As far as the lesson goes, thank you for being so diligent in your Bible Study. Once again, kudos to Angie and Kyle for saying the verse. Try to remember throughout the week what we talked about-"just as we have have many members....we are all one body in Christ." You may not know what your role in the church body is just yet, but I challenge you to pray that God reveals it to you. Don't be afraid to try out different ministries until you find what you are good at. The Lord may surprise you in how he uses you.

WATER SURVIVAL PREVIEW

#1. Remove shoes,tie together & place around your neck

#2. Tie the bottom of your pants in a knot. Leave room for your head to pass through

#3. Button and zip pants. Grab waistband, reach back and quickly force pants into water
This will fill the pants with air

#4. If not enough air in pants, slightly lift waistband above water and splash air into pants

#5. Put your head through opening and swim to safety. If air starts to leak-repeat step 4.

DOES THIS SEEM EASY?? EVERYONE WILL GET TO TRY THEIR HAND AT MAKING A FLOAT. HERE IS WHAT WE ARE DOING ON SUNDAY.

SURVIVAL CLASS KICKOFF

Today was the first day of our new youth survival class! I have to say that I was impressed with the enthusiasm the class showed. I look forward to the weeks ahead and getting to know you all better. I will be praying that God will speak to our hearts and that our faith and love for Him will grow stronger through this experience.

Do your books! Remember the more you put into this class the more you will get out of it. Feel free to leave posts , ask questions, give some ideas for class,I will check it as often as I can.
